Intimacy After Menstruation

Question

Assalaamu Alaikum.

It has happened a few times now that after bleeding ceases, I have relations with my husband. Thereafter, I bleed again. In such a case, is it necessary to refrain from intimacy until after 10 days have passed every time I get my period?

Answer

There are three scenarios depending on when the bleeding comes to an end:

1. If bleeding ceases at the maximum duration of ten days then it is permissible to have sexual intercourse with one’s spouse. It is preferred to have a shower first though not necessary.

2. If bleeding ceases before ten days but after one’s menstrual habit then one can have sexual intercourse after having had a shower.

3. If bleeding ceases after three days and before one’s habit then sexual intercourse is not permissible until one reaches their habit days.
