Question
Salam, I know someone who believes in crystals she believes Allah has put healing in the crystal and said she feel better when using them, she has serve long term illness and uses them to help her. Is this haram as I know we can only use medicine if it’s scientifically back up for example paracetamol.
Answer
The belief of a Muslim is that benefit and harm can only come from Allah the Almighty. Even medicines do not have the intrinsic independent ability to benefit a person. Rather, it is Allah the Almighty who is providing the benefit in reality and the medicine is only the means. If Allah wills, a paracetamol will fail to provide pain relief, and at the same time if He wills, a person can be relieved of pain without taking any form of medication.
If an individual uses crystals with this understanding that Allah the Almighty is the one who is ultimately providing the benefit and the crystal is only the means and has no intrinsic power of its own, then it will be permissible. This is provided that there are no other unlawful practices or beliefs taking place with the use of crystals.
Treatment does not have to be supported by science in order to be permissible.
