Question

Assalamu Alaikum, Mufti saab I hope you are well and in the best of health. My question is regarding combining Maghrib and Isha in the summer months. My friend drives a taxi and a Masjid locally combines Maghrib and Isha in the summer months. Can my friend, as a Hanafi follow them in this matter? Jazakumullah for all your help.

Answer

During the summer months, according to some methods of calculating ʿisha’ time, there is no beginning time for ʿisha’. In such a case one would have to estimate the time for ʿisha’ and pray accordingly. There are different methods of estimating one of which is to follow the closest location where ʿisha’ can be observed from. As for combining maghrib and ʿisha’ this would not be a permissible option. Therefore, your friend should pray his ʿisha’ in an alternative masjid.
