Question
Assalamalaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu
I have been through marital rape 20 years ago. My health and family relations are quite chaotic, and I can see it is because of the overall disruption of health status that affects all other spheres of life. I want to sort out my life by writing a narrative of rape trauma, attaching cause to all health conditions (biochemical and neurological basis), interpersonal relations etc., based on available scientific evidence. This may give me a good look at the things I can and cannot improve, hence minimize the chaos. Is it okay to publish this paper online, or will it get me into trouble? From the Islamic point of view, does publishing on such topics come under modesty if no inappropriate details are mentioned? I also want to know if trauma is a real concept in Islam, or is it just a marketing hype in the present age.
Jazakallahu khairan kaseeran
Answer
If the aim of writing the paper is to sort out personal issues you are going through then there is no need to publish the paper as by writing it you will already be exposed to the ideas that come about from your research.
In regards to getting into trouble, if you are speaking from a legal sense then this is not our area of expertise.
As for the Islamic perspective, if the paper is academic, and has points which are beneficial for others to read then it would be permissible to write and publish the paper provided the content is permissible in Islam and avoiding non-Islamic content such as backbiting about another person etc.
Before writing your article we would advise researching the Islamic perspective on the various parts of your article to ensure that you do not write anything contrary to Islam.
