Question
Assalamu ‘alaykum wa rahmatullahi wabarakatuhu
My question is i am a security engineer(IT engineer) and my company is service base so one of my client is popular liquor company and i have been given to them for IT related projects.
So my questions is my earning haram??
Answer
There are two factors to take into consideration. The first is the actual role itself and the second is the source of income.
If your role is restricted to implementing and monitoring computer and network security protocols and you are in no way promoting the business or its products then the role will be permissible. Your pay will be in lieu of this service which is a lawful service.
As for the income you will be paid, if you are being paid by the liquor company directly and not through an agency then you will have to take into consideration the source of income of the company. If the company has only unlawful income such as liquor sales and interests earned through deposits, then it will not be lawful for you to take a wage from the company and thus you must source alternative work.
If however, the company engages in lawful transactions and lawful profit making in addition to its unlawful business, then if your wage falls within the lawful income of the company it will be permissible for you to take a wage from the company.
