Alsalam Alaikum,

Is it halal to work as a Maintenance Engineer in an Investment Company (not a bank, but managing money and making investments like purchasing real estate, public stocks, debt instruments, etc)?

So basically I will not be working on anything related to finance, but I will be responsible for doing maintenance on the buildings. Please assist me.

Answer

An investment company is not necessarily an entirely unlawful enterprise. Rather, there maybe lawful activities taking place amongst unlawful activities. Also, your role does not require you to engage in any of the unlawful activities. Rather, your role is building maintenance and your wage is in consideration of this. For these reasons we would consider it lawful for you to work as a maintenance engineer at such an investment company.
