Question

As salamu alikum. My father died 8 years ago. 15 years ago my dad asked my brother in law to lend 1000 dollars to my brother and he said he will make sure that he returned that money. But my brother never returned. Still now my brother in law holding my father guilty for that money. I tried to return that money to him then he can forgive my father but he he don’t want money not he forgive my dad . What should I do?

Answer

If you are still willing to make the payment then you may want to consider giving that money to your brother and telling him to pay your brother-in-law back. If you fear your brother may not pay him another option may be to tell your brother to say to your brother-in-law that he now has the money to pay him back and that he should send his bank details so that he can deposit the repayment into his account. Then when he does you can send the money from your account. That way from your brother in laws perspective, your brother has paid back the debt as initially agreed and he does not need to know that the money came from you. If you were to do this for the purpose of strengthening family ties then it will be extremely rewarding insha’ Allah.

If however, your brother in law does not accept the money and is also not willing to forgive then there is not much else that can be done as he is refusing to accept the only two possible options that exist.
