Answer

We commend you for keeping up with your religious dress code even whilst living in shared accommodation. May Allah the Almighty reward you and keep you steadfast.

It is not permissible to buy a house using a conventional interest-based mortgage.

There are alternative options rather than buying a house with an interest-based mortgage. You will need to determine which option is most suitable for you.

  1. Renting your own accommodation. If the prices in London are too high you may want to consider relocating to a more affordable area if suitable.
  2. Buying a house using private financing or shariʿah compliant financing. You could look into a shared ownership scheme or a shariʿah compliant mortgage provider.
